First my husband read it and loved it. then my sister read it and loved it. Finally I gave in and read it--and I loved it! The story is fascinating--told from the perspective of a teenage autistic boy, dealing with the emotional issues of others around him, although he can't understand them, and trying to survive life, while avoiding things that are yellow or brown. :) A totally engrossing read. I often worry that these books with a lot of buzz won’t live up to the hype by the time I get around to reading them. In this case, I shouldn’t have worried. From his prime-numbered chapters to his reasons why he doesn’t like the colors yellow and brown, Haddon’s autistic narrator is full of his own charm, even if he couldn’t tell you what charm was. Easy read but interesting and fun. I really liked the characters and would recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about children with Asperger's or anyone interested in a genuinely good book.
