I am surprised by how much I enjoyed this book! It hooked me from the beginning! There is a LOT of drama, gorgeous descriptions of nature, and a beautiful, resolved ending. Gabriel Oak is such a good, solid character. Also, Lead Kindly Light is referenced at a turning point in the book, and that is my all-time favorite hymn! One point off because the writing has some very obscure references--so I spent a lot of time looking those up but ended up learning a lot about old English folklore. Can't w ...more
