Where to start? Let's begin with the positive. The writing is just beautiful in this book. It evokes a sense of being right there with the story. Now the not-so-positive. This story was lacking lots of things, but mostly a story. I'm not a reader who needs a ton of action to enjoy a book, but this book really had nothing. Dreadfully dull
For the heaps of praise this book recieves from all corners, I really wanted to enjoy it. Instead I found it dull and slow, with a drudging narrative and unlikeable characters. I could sum up the entire plot in three sentences or less, and even the peak of the story falls flat.

A beautifully sad book. The prose is wonderful and the unfolding of the narrator, Stephen, is intriguing and masterful. But to me, during this current time it tells of a life wasted. We hold onto beliefs and habits often to our detriment.

Listened to the audio, which had to have immensely enriched the experience. Wonderful performance of a beautifully written book. The Anglophile in me is very satisfied.
