I finally got around to reading this by checking it out as a library ebook on my nook. I have to be honest - I wasn't expecting much - when something is soooo popular I tend to have pretty low expectations. ;)
Having said that - I pretty much loved it. I had no idea it would be so laugh-out-loud funny! Gilbert has such a relaxed, conversational yet brutally honest way of writing. I found it to be totally engaging the whole way through. ...more

I had heard many people recommend this book, but as someone who's generally happy with life, I couldn't understand why I wanted to read about someone else's soul-searching journey around the world. However, I finally gave in, and listened to it on audio, which Elizabeth Gilbert does herself.
The first parts I was blown away and couldn't believe how wrong I was. Despite the fact that you may be happy with live, the question of how did I end up in this situation really resonated with me. Despite th ...more

I've heard a mixed bag of reviews for this book...the bad ones made me hesitate to pick it up, but the good ones made me hope it was as good as said reviews claimed. The popularity of the book made me afraid it was gimmicky, which I hate. I don't read books just because Oprah tells me they're good. My biggest factor in reading it was that one of my best friends recommended it to me. She has known me well enough and long enough at this point for me to feel comfortable in any recommendation she gi

If you like stories of faux-spirituality from an incredibly self-absorbed woman, then this is the book for you! Elizabeth Gilbert takes us with her on her journey to three different locales to cope with her failed marriage and subsequent boyfriend as well as "finding" herself. If that isn't enough to entice you, we also find out that she is extremely clingy and generally unstable. Now that you're roped in, let's proceed...
The three places she goes on her journey are Italy, India, and Indonesia. ...more

I know, I know...the controversy of this book! However! I listened to it on my iPod and I LOVED it. I don't think i would have liked to read it at all in fact, but listening to it was wonderful. I got lost in the settings and the people and thought it was a great journey...

I don't usually read popular bestsellers (even though they are obviously there for a reason) but since I knew I would want to watch the Julia Roberts movie coming out in a few weeks I made sure to read the book first.... and it exceeded my expectations. Made me want to travel, befriend strangers, and slow down and make time for some stillness and solitude. I definately did some laughing out loud and I loved how the many literary ties weaved the book together... particularly amazing since this is
