What Members Thought

The book was an engaging read, but it drives me mad. Gilbert described different places and people well and her "characterization" of her cowboy-esque friend at the Ashram was really clever. However, it's difficult to buy into her spiritual journey. I agree with the other writers that she is self-absorbed and her spirituality is irrelevant to most people without her means.

I know, I know...the controversy of this book! However! I listened to it on my iPod and I LOVED it. I don't think i would have liked to read it at all in fact, but listening to it was wonderful. I got lost in the settings and the people and thought it was a great journey...

I found many insightful observations about life, spirituality and acceptance while reading this.. I just wish it hadn't taken me so long. It was good, but not a page-turner for me. I enjoyed it, but I didn't fall in love with it - as many of my friends had. ...more
