Sometimes I think there may be something wrong with me because I'll pick up a book that has been gushed over and be all excited to dive into it and then... nothing. It falls flat for me. Completely flat - as in, I want to put it down mid-"action" and never pick it up again. Unfortunately, Code Name Verity was that book for me this time around.

This is a book that builds. At first I found it hard to suspend disbelief, but as I read more I got sucked in and by the end I was so caught up in the story that I made my husband babysit the kids so I could go off and finish it.
I can see why it might not grab some readers right away, but hanging in there is worth it. The second half illuminates the first half and is completely compelling.
So good.

I loved this so much that I can't even muster up coherent reasons why. I devoured this and it made me cry like a freak.
