This book is quite simply utterly brilliant, and that is before I read the Author's Notes where she mentioned she consulted with the Imperial War Museum (quite is my favorite museum in the entire world).
(a quick ETA: yes, I am a student of history, but not military history, and as such, do not care much about planes. But if you think this is about planes, you aren't reading the same book I am. Or, at least, you won't be if you keep reading. Trust me ...more

Sometimes I think there may be something wrong with me because I'll pick up a book that has been gushed over and be all excited to dive into it and then... nothing. It falls flat for me. Completely flat - as in, I want to put it down mid-"action" and never pick it up again. Unfortunately, Code Name Verity was that book for me this time around.

So gripping and twisty, with fantastic girl friendships. So heartwrenching.
I think I need to read some spoilers on this one. it was great but I think I missed something in the end... it had a lot of the story told in winks, nods, and codes, which my literal brain (desperate to finish and sleepy) missed it all.

I loved this so much that I can't even muster up coherent reasons why. I devoured this and it made me cry like a freak.
