In the uncertain times following 9/11, Ifemelu goes to college in America, while Obinze tries his luck as an illegal immigrant in England. Fascinating, if flawed. Realistic-feeling insight into being an immigrant of color in the US. Having lived in Nigeria, I loved the scenes in Lagos and the verbal patterns she used (e.g., adding "o" at the end of many sentences). The blog entries about race ("I didn't know I was black until I came to America" - not exact quote) were eye-opening.
