**Update: This was just as good the second time around. I love the Lumberjanes!**
So good! A group of five friends at a sleep away camp rely on each other, but also their own strengths and smarts, to bravely face their fears and conquer unique challenges. That sounds sort of cheezy, but this group of lady types are anything but. They are strong, funny, and intelligent and expect the reader to keep up with them too. I'm so glad that I decided to use this for the two reading challenges I'm working on! For the 2017 BookRiot Read Harder Challenge, it fit "read an all-ages comic;" for the 2017 PopSugar Ultimate Reading Challenge, it fit "a book recommended by a librarian." This volume contains the first four comics and was an excellent introduction to this clever, imaginative series. It follows the adventures of five friends--Jo, April, Mal, Molly, and Ripley--spending the summer at the Lumberjanes scout camp.

Aw, it's over?! As I read books for the PopSugar challenge, I usually feel happy and satisfied at the end of a book because I get to tick off another prompt, but this one just made me feel sad that there wasn't more book! (Luckily Vols 2-6 are also available on ComiXology Unlimited - squee!)

If I am honest this feels more like middle grade instead of YA. I think the characters are teenagers, but they act younger and it feels like a kiddy cartoon with all the "to infinity and beyond" or "what the junk?" Anyway... It is a very cute story full of friendships and girl power that would have engaged my pre-teen/early teen self and endears it's characters to me as an adult. I will be checking the rest of the series out from the library to see how their story ends.

Adorable mischievous girls have adventures. What the junk?!

Absolutely delightful. Vibrant art, quirky adventures, strange monsters, curious and clever girls, and strong friendships.

Task #6 - Read an all-ages comic.
I think I've found a new comic to read! I'm not normally a fan of all-ages comics, but Lumberjanes is kinda hard to resist. The art is fantastic and the story is lots of fun.
Definitely looking forward to reading Vol. 2! ...more
