What Members Thought
Listening to this got me through a long drive through Ontario, for which I am thankful. With that said, I am still not 100% in the Sedaris camp as I always find his essays uneven. I tend to not like the essays about his family, especially his parents. When he picks at his family, it bothers me and I don't think that is his best source for humor. What's not to love? David Sedaris is smart and hilarious. He writes about the most mundane and ordinary parts of life with a virtuoso's observational talent. His essay on preparing for and having his first colonoscopy left me laughing out loud. There's another essay about keeping a diary...and how it often becomes the source of his essays...that I plan to read sections of to my fifth grade class. A great gift for anyone with a kind of offbeat, sick sense of humor. I wish I had his gifts.
