I have really mixed feelings about this book. I couldn't put it down and I read it in one day so I am going to go ahead with 4 stars. It is a great read. I also think it is positive that it makes people think about how their actions and words impact other people, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the book could be harmful to someone reading who is more like the character Hannah. It seemed like her suicide was presented as based on her circumstances alone and ignored any underlying mental ill

It didn't take me very long to read this book, I think probably 2 or 3 days. I need to digest it before I even begin to attempt to write a review. First thoughts -- great YA/teen book! In many ways, I wish this book had been around when I was teen. I will write a review in the coming days, I feel like there are some parts I need to reread before I sit down and write about this book. I loved it though, I can definitely say that and the subject matter isn't exactly one that leaves you with a "warm

Great book, great writing, tough subject. I loved the simultaneous narrative and the delivery via cassette tapes...I just thought it was a unique way of presenting the story and unlike any presentation I've read. I won't pretend to understand an iota of suicide nor the thoughts leading up to it. However, I think it's a great YA novel for any age to read and to encourage us, on a daily basis, to be mindful of how our actions and words affect others. Just "do good". It's simple, really. Great story about a high school girl's suicide and the events that drove her to it. It shows how the little things that people say or do can have a huge impact on someone's life even if they may seem trivial. Interesting story that is told in an unusual way. Great first book for this author.

A novel for young adults, but I enjoyed it. Difficult subject matter-girl commits suicide and leaves behind tapes of her reasons why. Shows how our actions can affect others. Sadly, the people who need to read and internalize this story probably aren't reading it.

This is written for a teenage audience, and I suppose the point is for that audience to read it and consider that their actions have a ripple affect and that they should stop and consider the way they treat people.
However, as an adult reading this, I was annoyed at the teenage angst used as an excuse for suicide. Yes, there are a lot of parts of your teenage years that stink, and minor things seem to be the biggest events in the world. However even when I added up her 13 reasons, they really did ...more

I really didn't enjoy this book at all. I thought the writing was poor, and the plot was thin. I could not empathize with Hannah at all.
