I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did.
The premise is interesting. Hannah Baker commits suicide. Before she swallows the pills, she mails a shoe box of seven audio tapes to a classmate. Each side of each tape features Hannah talking about a person in her life (13 people total) whose actions impacted her in an irreversible way. The tapes are mailed from person to person until all 13 people have listened to them. Hannah wants each person to hear - from her - how they impacted her life. T ...more

I read this after watching the Netflix series, and while I thought both were well done, the Netflix series definitely hit me harder, and I think did a better job of showing how one person's decision can impact so many others. I can see how teenagers reading this book would be seriously affected - whether they're in Hannah's position, or just someone that knows a person that needs help. I really didn't enjoy this book at all. I thought the writing was poor, and the plot was thin. I could not empathize with Hannah at all.
