Meh. I enjoyed the story at first, but found the main character to be a little whiney and have no back bone. She was a pushover and didn't stick to her decisions with any conviction.

I liked the time period and the characters. I admire anyone who had the guts to immigrate by themselves.
This is one of the few times I will say these words: The movie was better than the book. The story was fine, but after really enjoying the movie I was expecting to be more wowed.
