This story hooks you from the first few pages. The book takes place in Western Australia in the early 1920's. Tom and his new wife live on an island where Tom is a lighthouse keeper. They want a child more than anything - but Isabel has suffered through miscarriages and a stillborn. Miraculously, a baby washed ashore in a boat one day and the couple decide to keep her and raise her as their own. There are consequences of course, and those quickly become apparent.
