This novel is so reletable to me because I too have also have been inside of a psych ward and have witnessed the same dynamic which play out between McMurphy and the other. I don't really need to go into spoilers here but from the moment McMurphy arrives he is a contrarian from the beginning who actually has the temerity to treat the patients like adults and men as opposed to infants and childrens which most of the staff does. Crazy, crazy ride. This book is the kind of book that started really slow and difficult, but then... whooshhh! it took you to the top of roller coaster and made you scream all the way down. I haven't watched the movie but I can picture Jack Nicholson perfectly as McMurphy, the brassy red hair. While Chief Bromden as the narrator only lingered at the back, turned out he's the one who had solution for every problem til the end. The ending made me sighing again and again.
