I originally tried to read this book as a little girl. Unfortunately, even as a kid, I never had much use for over-done, flowery, descriptive writing. It's a great book. It's well written and I love Anne and Marilla and Matthew and Diana but good grief it's taking me forever to get through it. I can't stand to read but a few pages at a time before I have to put it down and do something else. The kids and I listened to the audiobook narrated by Rachel McAdams and it was a hit from my 13-year-old to my 7-year-old. We enjoyed Anne's chatty nature and the mishaps that she'd cause. It was a thoroughly delightful book with many wonderful quotes.

2024: I haven't read this book since I was a teen (not all the way through, anyway), so it was extra special to sit and read it aloud with my fifth grade daughter twenty years later, something I always hoped I'd get to do. One of my greatest joys as a parent has been sharing my favorite books with my children.
