Interesting plot but the main character is oddly transphobic, sexist and racist in a way that doesn't make sense for 2017. He is an educated journalist who is sort of a loser but I don't get the impression he is someone we are supposed to think especially poorly of. Repeated comments and speculations about people's race and weight. A reference to steamed buns and sesame chicken being made of cat?!? Odd reactions to transpeople/ and drag queens. He is supposed to be in his mid-40s as far as I can ...more

A dark story about perception, truth, fiction, and how easy it can be twisted to fit. This was the creepiest yet the most believable plot that I have read in a while. The scariest stories are the ones about normal people, day to day life and the evil that can creep into it. Scott McGrath is an investigative reporter who becomes involved in the life of a mysterious movie director and his family. That is where normal ends and you are taken on a long; sometimes nightmarish ride. The book contains pict ...more

The story was fine. The journey we go on with the MC is fine. But the MC is so thoroughly unlikeable and offensive that I can't recommend it. Everything is in his POV so we only get glimpses of the other characters' depth because he has his head firmly up his ass. That wasn't what offended me - I know his unlikeablity and self-involvement is part of the point. But it was a shame to be so offended and not have less casually hateful characters more fleshed out, or more appreciated, to provide repr ...more
