A dark story about perception, truth,fiction, and how easy it can be twisted to fit.This was the creepiest yet the most believable plot that I have read in a while. The scariest stories are the ones about normal people, day to day life and the evil that can creep into it. Scott McGrath is an investigative reporter who becomes involved in the life of a mysterious movie director and his family. Wow! This book has it all -- good writing, great characters, suspense out the wazoo and this huge story that leaves you turned inside out and upside down. And the ebook edition is awesome, with links to assorted "articles" about the mysterious Cordova and his movies.
I predict this will be made into a movie, I could see Brad Pitt as Scott McGrath, with Jennifer Lawrence and some very good looking young male as the young sidekicks. Handled well it could be Oscar worthy.

This is hard to talk about without talking about Special Topics in Calamity Physics, a debut book that I didn't love but thought was ambitious and certainly spelled promise for a young author.
This sophomore attempt is also ambitious, but maybe tips over into overly-ambitious category. I didn't think that the pay off was necessarily worth it and the complicated plot became muddled and slowed down the story in an unsatisfying way.

I persevered until the end of this too-long book. I'm not sure if I missed anything by listening to the audio version rather than reading the print, which I understand is supplemented with a lot of visuals. I don't think so... The premise was interesting, but the author could've used a more assertive editor. And I was taught to avoid ending a writing piece with a quote from someone else's with because it can take away from your own work. This book did stumble to its conclusion, and the use of a
