I’m a little confused since I’d seen the movie first… but I think I liked it?

The movie is better!!

Not sure whether to rate this 3 or 4 stars... at times I even felt my attention waning. A quick read, the chapters are long, and the movie is so much different!

I've never seen the movie all the way through, although I think I've seen select scenes here and there, so I came to this book with very little knowledge of the story. I did know, of course, that there were witches in it, which is why I prioritized it - gotta finish the PopSugar Reading Challenge for this year! I don't know if Hoffman does this in all her books, but the narrator was so omnipotent that the characters were very well described and I felt like I knew all their backstories and motiva ...more

I loved this book and definitely let my kids run wild while I read. It completely sucked me in from the first page. All of the characters are interesting and complex, and it is a story of love and forgiveness. This book always pops up as a good fall book, but most of it takes place in summer, which I found interesting.

"Practical Magic" is where the Owens family magic truly comes full circle, blending the mystical with everyday life. Reading this book after "Magic Lessons" and "The Rules of Magic" made me appreciate how beautifully Hoffman ties the threads of past and present together. The touch of realism in the magical elements feels s ...more

Eh. I’m not really sure what to think of this book. I didn’t really enjoy it but I didn’t hate it either. It was almost like there wasn’t much of a story. I never watched the movie, and I kept thinking, “how did this get made into a movie with famous people?!”

I have another book in this series that I got from book of the month. I’m not sure I want to read it.

It was a bit disappointing too because the only other book I read by the author, The Dove Keepers, was amazing. I might give her one more

I liked the atmosphere a lot, and the story was just fine, but I was expecting it to be a lot more...intentionally witchy. I definitely think I need to read about the aunts.
