It was ok. I guess I was expecting more magic on the part of the sisters. I read this for book club, though, so no harm! I'm also considering this a ghost story, for week 44 of my 2018 Reading Challenge.

I have always found Alice Hoffman to be hit or miss, so I always wondered how she could be the one behind the 90s movie that I adored. The answer: it's a completely different story. The Hollywood movie took loose character sketches from the book and made their own story. Surprisingly that made me like the book better because I didn't know what would happen. Hoffman still is not going to be a favorite, and I'd pick the Hollywood version between the two.
