En primera persona la narración nos lleva desde el primer momento en el que llega con el médico que le indica que debe internarse: debido a su juventud e inexperiencia, no ve otras opciones y lo que debía ser una estancia de dos semanas se convierte en más de un año.

I've been long aware of the movie interpretation of this book, and that the lead actress was acclaimed for her portrayal of the author in this autobiographical work, but admittedly have not seen the film. After reading the book, I would be interested in seeing it, as Kaysen provides an unusual first-hand account of what it was like to be involuntarily committed to a psychiatric ward as a teenager. Better than the movie, but not what I expected. I thought it would be more revealing, but it's fairly disjointed and doesn't give that much insight into what it's like to live with mental illness. ...more
