I really enjoyed this. I didn't really know what people truly thought of the book and really tried to avoid any sort of notion of what the book was about until I had finished the book so as to escape disappointment with the book. And hence I was able to enjoy it much more than I probably would have had I either read reviews of the book or watched the movie that came out a few months ago on DVD.

I TOTALLY enjoyed this book. I read it pretty slowly because at first I only had small chunks of time here and there, but once I got into it, I read it slowly simply because I didn't want it to end!

I wish there were some kind of 5+ star rating to give a book. This one was actually worth the late nights I stayed up to read it. Sometimes I find myself reading into the early morning just to finish a book and be done with it. Wonderful story told from three different view points, one white college educated woman and two black maids in Jackson Mississippi in the early 60s. The frame of telling their stories seemed a little stiff, but the characters are interesting and while it all seems a world away, the ebb and flow of relationships is timeless. I especially loved Aibileen, one of the black maids. This is a first novel, and sort of reads like one, but I would be interested in what else this author puts out.
