This guy's story was AMAZING, how did one human being live through all these different experiences?!?! (I'm not telling you anything that's not on the jacket cover, don't worry.) A troubled LA teen (from Torrance, actually) is saved by sports and becomes an Olympic athelete. Truly enjoyed this book. Read it of course because of the movie. For me while Louie Zamperini lived an amazing life and survived a hellacious ordeal I was drawn in to the book by the idea that this happened to so many men. This could have been any POWs story.
It was a shock to learn that their PTSD was for the most part treated with B12 shots. The fact that we as a nation still do so very little to treat PTSD better is a horrible reflection of our society.

What an amazing story! Although I resisted this one despite all the hype, I'm glad I finally read it. The story of Louis Zamperini is one of courage, stubbornness and strength in the face of overwhelming danger and human cruelty and, dare I say, one that should be required reading in school. He is a true American hero and Hillenbrand's telling of his story was superb. Highly recommended for book groups and any readers from age 13 and up. (I'll have to be sure to get a copy for my Dad.) Wow.
