I read this as part of the 2020 Asian Readathon hosted by Read With Cindy.

I didn't HATE it, hence 3 stars, but I also... feel very let down and disappointed.

I was extremely uncomfortable with the sexual assault scenes, the way the interactions between the female protagonist (17 years old) and her sexually aggressive captor (19 years old) were described. It was heavily romanticized and sexualized and just icky.

Uh... sounds like a ripoff of X-men. I haven't seen those movies, but it sure does sound like what I've heard... Not sure I like the writing style, either. Maybe I am too old for this young adult novel. ...more

Most of this book was very melodramatic and over written, then suddenly at the end it changed to a totally different book. I liked the last 1/4 much better than everything before, and that is tempting me to read sequels.
