**2015 Reading Challenge W/Josh: #21 A Book Your Mom Loves (Our mom doesn't read so this will be a choose your own)**
This would have easily been a 5 star book if it didn't take so long to get good. I wasn't truly invested in the book until Kvothe made it to the university. Which wasn't until somewhere around 45%. Which is a lot of reading since the book is almost 700 pages. But I have to say once it got good it really got good. I went from "meh" to omg I can't put it down. And it stayed that way ...more

I enjoyed the book and will probably give it a 3.5, but I haven't read the second (or third - duh) book yet, so some of the plot lines don't make sense and that annoys me at the end of the first book. I don't understand the purpose of some characters, and my writer's brain feels they should have been on the editing room floor.
On the other hand, acknowledging that this is a story within a story, I understand how people meander, and I see a lot of the classic storytelling conceits and archetypes. ...more

A little rambling.
I enjoyed the story/first book, but did not realize this was a GOT type of thing where it's taking forever for the 3rd book to come out. Might not have started the series (?) then.
