I've always loved Alan Cumming. He just has a joy and wit about him. So much personality, charisma and charm! His smile seems to have mischief behind it and his accent... I mean. Who doesn't love a Scotsman!? Of course I had to get the audio version and he's a fantastic narrator.

First of all, I love Alan Cumming. After reading his memoir, I now love him even more. To endure such abuse & come out the other side the way he has is an example of the endurance of the human spirit. I appreciate that he told an interesting story about something so personal & moving, rather then write a tale of sordid celebrity exploits. An excellent read, indeed!

Not the easiest story to enjoy since it covers his childhood with an incredibly abusive father but I did. The parallels stories of Alan's growing up and the search for information about his maternal grandfather were interesting. As I haven't seen the episode of "Who Do You Think You Are" that is detailed in the book, the cliffhangers really worked for me. It is hard to imagine having to wait days/weeks/months to find out the next bit of information when I just had to listen for a few more minute ...more

I think my appreciation of this book was definitely enhanced by hearing Alan Cumming tell his own story. His emotion, warmth and humor ( and Scottish accent) made this a pleasure to listen to.
