I did not really enjoy my time spent reading this bloated mystery/romance. I can appreciate that it was groundbreaking in its time, but I didn't need to be reading it now in my time.
There are so many great reviews about how fun this story is, I expected some masterful plotting with a big, shocking payoff. But what I've gotten is a great big pile of melodramatic twaddle centered around a heroine who is TSTL. 3,5 stars from me.

Description (source): Who is the mysterious woman in white who appears to the drawing instructor late one night? From whom is she fleeing? How is she connected with the woman the drawing instructor loves but cannot marry? And above all, what is up with the mysterious Count Fosco?
Review source: This was a free kindle book because it’s in the public domain.
Plot: The book was a little difficult to get started in, but once the woman in white appears, only a few pages in, things start to move quickly ...more

Okay, I've finished reading our "longest read of the year" book club book. Now, this baby can be born!

One of my book clubs selected the classic Victorian novel "The Woman in White" as our January selection. "The Woman in White" is one of those classics someone (long forgotten who) recommended to me probably 15+ years ago, so I am glad that I finally got around to reading it. It definitely has the same "feel" as some of my favorite classics such as Rebecca, Jane Eyre, and Middlemarch an ...more
