This is my second read of Pride and Prejudice, and I loved it even more this time than I had when I read it in high school. I feel that many of the "required texts" that I read then weren't things I could entirely grasp. I experienced P&P in a whole new way, reading it this time around. It was funnier, wittier, more romantic. Austen just really isn’t my thing. I did enjoy this more than Emma but only because I liked the characters more here. I don’t really get a satirical novel about the time as I have heard about this novel. It seems to be straight aligned with the conventions of the time period with only Elizabeth’s confident personality and her father’s snide comments to set this story apart. A delightful book which I feel I left too long to read! Having now completed it I can say that I am pleasantly surprised at Jane Austen's easy reading style. Her observations are spot on and I shall now go and enjoy Colin Firth's Mr Darcy on DVD! ...more
