I know this book is loved by many but I found it extremely boring. Some of the fault could be put on the audiobook narrator. He wasn't bad it's just that he had a very soft and soothing voice which made me sleepy. I haven't seen the movie so I'm not sure how it compares. But for me it barely made a 2 star rating.

This book is very depressing but makes you think and appreciate what you have (food storage, family, life!)
Probably the first book I've read because it was strongly NOT recommended reading, and I have to agree with my cousin that it's not all it's hyped up to be. She was assigned it as part of her high school curriculum and kept saying 'they walk, and then they walk some more, but nothing actually happens,' but since it was relatively recently written I figured I'd give it a try in an attempt to determine what makes it so well-regarded and assigned for students to read.
