There’s been a lot written and said about this story but the biggest thought I have is that Ishiguro is quite deft at creating a world that feels real, with its lingo and routines, real enough that when he inserts small comments from the narrator that indicate a slightly skewed reality, you start to realize how truly odd it is. For some reason this book did not really enthrall me the way I thought it would based on the premise of the book and the hype I had heard about the story. I kept reading waiting for it to get better and for it to pick up it's pace and emotion, but it fell flat for me. I started listening to this on audiobook on a Thursday, just during my commute. By Saturday, I'd gone to the library to get a book version, so I wouldn't have to burn gas just to know what happened next. I devoured the book that weekend.

Wow. Okay I wasn't sure what to think about this one but wow. I think it is the way that everything appears so ordinary and yet there is this other layer that gets to me.

This book took me foreverrrrr to actually finish. Just not my taste at all. I think I abandoned it like twice before coming back and reading the rest just because I'm waiting for other stuff from the library.
