Knowing that I enjoy art and mysteries, my brother recommended this book to me. It was just what I needed after finishing The Dinner. I thought the author did an excellent job of making the Impressionist painters and other historical figures seem believable and true to the image I had of them based on previously studying their lives and works. Moore is always entertaining, and no exception here. But in this case he's also educative, or a conduit to education anyway. I found myself reading this book with wikipedia handy, looking up artists and paintings and locations from the French Impressionist era. The plot went haywire at times, but this book was never boring, always interesting, and in many cases, beautiful, just like its subject.
