Wowza, I wanted to like this book, but I couldn't. I have a soft spot in my heart for Lena Dunham. I like Girls a lot, specifically how she uses her body in that show.
But Lena, as a person, is worse than Hannah Horvath, somehow. There's just nothing to this person except neurosis and spoiled-bratness. She's mean and selfish and rude. Obviously, we all have times when we are mean and selfish and rude, but she seems to be this way all day every day, in every situation. She does seem to have some ...more

This book was a pleasant surprise.
Lena Dunham has an openness about her that I think a lot of people don't like because they misinterpret it as attention seeking. While it garners her attention, I think it's refreshing to share the bad with the good. Dunham is relatable in a way that can be uncomfortable at times.

I love Lena Dunham so wanted to love this more than I did. Perhaps if I listened to it I would have enjoyed it more. This collection of essays seemed disjointed - there was no clear path and it made me think she didn't have a very good editor. The essays are about everything. Her weight, her parents, summer camp, college, boyfriends. I wanted to hear more about Lena now, her job and her creative process. She doesn't mention her movie and she just grazes her show Girls. I think her show is fantas

now that I've read Lena's book, I understand where her ideas for her show Girls come from. This book did not make me want to be friends with her, as she's an over privileged, over analyzed, neurotic, immature baby, but I'm also glad that someone with her creative nature exists in the world.

This was good. I enjoyed reading it, and reading it quickly. I was happy with her openness; her willingness to discuss what others won't was probably liberating for her as well as her readers, especially the young women among us, and I will recommend it to the many <30 women I know. I've given it three stars because I'm personally past some of the issues with which she's dealing in the book, just because I'm a little bit older. Maybe it would have been four if I'd been ten years younger and read
