There's much to like about this novel. From the beginning, the voice of the protagonist, Sutter, draws you in with his perspective and honesty. He is flawed, rebellious, irresponsible, sad and yearning. He seems to frustrate everyone in his life, his girlfriend, his sister, his mother, his best friend, Ricky. I gave this a 5 but it was a painful read. Tim Tharp is a genius--beautiful writing, and real psychological insights. Sutter Keely, the protagonist, is a high school senior. Sutter is the life of the party, but he's crying on the inside--his mom doesn't spend enough time with him to realize that he needs to go to rehab, and he doesn't have enough guidance to understand how smart he is, so that he can move forward in his life, and find a path forward.
