This was most unpleasant, disturbing, heart-wrenching and painful to read--but, at the same time, it was well worth it. Dugard's childhood was literally stolen from her by her kidnapper/abuser and her very blunt telling of what things occurred will make any reader feel blessed to be alive. Dugard has risen above her experiences and is slowly moving forward with her life.

Wow, what a story! I can't say it was particularly well written but that just gave her story that much more authenticity. I can only imagine the horrors she must have experienced and to be able to articulate that must have been the ultimate therapy. Her story deserves to be read because she put so much of herself out there in order to tell it.

I was curious about Jaycee Dugard, so I figured who else to learn about the story than Jaycee herself. She describes her sexual abuse with an innocence that made it all the more disturbing. There were many difficult parts to get through because it felt like it was written by a 5th grader (she includes her diary all about her cat, for example), but then she was kidnapped when she was in 5th grade and was basically kept in a jail cell, so what should I expect?
