Best of his books so far. I had difficulty putting it down, very well written story. I was a little nervous that it was going to be gory, but I'd say he had the creepiness factor set at perfect. You can definitely tell he has his parents' gift for writing.

It's been a long time since I read anything in the "horror" genre, and man! this did not disappoint. I'm tempted to go for five stars. I went into this knowing very little about the book other than it had a strong female protagonist and was recommended on some book nerd site or another. What I got was a little bit of magic, some deeply damaged and flawed main characters, a categorically evil antagonist... and a story about love and redemption. Surprising and unputdownable.

Joe Hill's stories are horror, but kind of horror-lite, for those of us who might be too squeamish for Stephen King's kind of horror. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Loved it. Classic King style (amazing how similar actually - that's one strong gene) in that he takes time to develop his characters so that your stomach drops when something terrible happens to them. And the use of everyday situations, just tweaked enough to creep you out and make you want to avoid classic cars for a while.

This was diverting, but not great. I think Joe Hill's pacing is just not for me - every time I read a novel by him, I feel like it would have been fabulous if edited down to about 70% of its actual length.
