A unforgettable and beautifully told story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul, Afghanistan. It is a great insight into certain parts of Afghan culture - I mean, have you ever heard of Kite running? A fascinating entertainment. I thought it was a biography it is so well

I was prejudiced against this book, that's why I picked it up much later. I couldn't ignore how the book was timed very well, turning it into a bestseller. It justified the war in Afghanistan for many readers; I personally think that's not what literature is here to do.
I read it hoping to be pleasantly surprised (and to be proved wrong), but I wasn't. What did the book do for me? Nothing, only reminded me of a typical Bollywood movie! It had all the twists and turns and drama of one.

I enjoyed it. It's about the relationship between 2 boys growing up in Afghanistan and f'd up parenting. While I was reading it, my mom was reading it in spanish and she really enjoyed it also. We both read it in a week because we couldn't put it down, easy to read.

Quite sad, though I found the theme of guilt then redemption somewhat uplifting, if not exactly happy. Also a good read, in that it's hard to put down.
