Review in Brief: Sequels are tricky. Sequels in trilogies even more so. Although The Subtle Knife lacks the cohesive, propulsive punch of The Golden Compass (book 1), it manages to take the reader successfully through Will’s journey as a counterpart to Lyra’s and leaves on an appropriate cliffhanger. This book just pulls me in and even in the second reading, I forgot how many twists and turns this story takes. So wonderful...I always find myself so emotionally attached to these characters, no matter if they're good or bad.
