I am so glad that I didn’t know the details of this story - I never saw the movie because I hadn’t read this yet!!! I have friends who looove this series so I knew about daemons, at the very least, and I’d heard other names mentioned but didn’t know how they fit in. It’s been really fun to read something full of surprises because you genuinely don’t know what’s going to happen.

I first read this 15 years ago, which makes me feel old haha but this book makes me feel young again in the best way. It is so full of magic, wonder, and the hope from an intelligent child who just wants to do the right thing. Definitely one I will read again and again :)
Not my favorite thing ever, but interesting and pretty fun to read. I'm taking a break before starting the second book, which Allen says is better... Se we'll see!

Lyra is a gifted young girl who is destined to save mankind. But she must do it without knowing that it is her mission. Went to bed in the middle of a chapter with only 20 pages to go in the book. Decent story, but just did not care at the end. 2.5 rounded down for ending.
This is such and inventive and original story. It's a fully-fleshed out world that I can't wait to read more about in the rest of the trilogy.
