LOVED the way this was written. Imagine being one of those children, your life starting out that way, and how it would form your world for the rest of your life.
This was a really great book. It drew me in with the first chapter and I was reluctant to put it down after that. Now that I am finished, I will have to get caught up with chores.
The history featured in this book intrigued me, and it was a big part of why I was hooked from the beginning. The writing is phenomenal. The descriptions were so perfect, that I could almost breath the cold Minnesota air. I loved the two different, yet similar heroines, and their stories. Vivian, the elderly woman with a sad past, and Molly, who is struggling for a better future. I was completely enthralled by Vivian's story, especially. I really enjoyed this book. I read it quickly, which is unusual for me.
I really enjoyed this book. I especially loved Vivian's story and learning a bit of history. Molly's story was more predictable but I loved the back-and-forth telling of the present story and the past and I loved the comparison and similarities of the two.

Highly recommended. I loved the blend of contemporary and historical story lines.
