Enjoyable, but also really predictable and a lot of the characters felt like caricatures- the troubled teen who turns out to be a book nerd, the old lady with A Past... Extremely quick read, and engaging, especially in the first half. I enjoyed the back-and-forth in history, from the late 1800s / early-to-mid 1900s to the present day, and the two character's points of view.

I think I'd give this 3.5, if I could...I liked the way the different time periods were broken up, overall, I enjoyed the story. Did think it would be much sadder, so I appreciated that...still in astonishment there was ever such a thing as an orphan train! ...more

I am interested in learning more about orphan trains, but overall this story was, as my father would say, contrived. For once can we write a story about an Irish family where the father is not a drunk?

I thought I would LOVE this book. I liked it. I felt that was something the author held back...I had a hard time at the beginning of this book. reading about Niahm's foster families was brutal. Each one got worse. After about 100 pages I really started to enjoy the book. I liked reading about Molly - she was a great, lovely character. Niahm was a little more closed off and harder to connect too. I did love the ending though. ...more
