What Members Thought

To me Christina Baker Kline is absolutely a story teller.
This book is very touching and tells an terrible truth happened around a century ago. Between 1854 to 1929 nearly 200,000 were transferred from East Coast to Midwest by so called Orphan Trains to be fostered or if they were lucky adopted by new people.
Things happened to those children was determined by their luck and who took them in.

Extremely quick read, and engaging, especially in the first half. I enjoyed the back-and-forth in history, from the late 1800s / early-to-mid 1900s to the present day, and the two character's points of view.
So this is about something I didn't know existed, which were these orphan trains, which took orphans, or unwanted children, from New York City to points in the midwest, where they were taken in by families, who adopted them and basically used them as workers around their houses and farms.
