Winner of the 1968 Newbery Award, this book is still relevant to readers of all ages. Nearly all children have a fantasy of running away at some time in their lives, but for those of us who are not meticulous planners like Claudia or notorious pinch pennies like Jamie, reading about it is the next best thing. Nearly all the adventure with none of the discomfort.

Claudia is a twelve year old girl who decides to run away from home to make her parents notice and appreciate her. She invites her little brother along and the two hide out at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The arrival of a beautiful statue that may or may not have been created by Michelangelo captivates Claudia. Suddenly, she is on a mission to solve the mystery of Angel.
Adorable coming of age story with some wonderful art references. A classic!
