The first thing you should know if you read this book is that it *isn't* a novel. It's a series of short stories with overlapping or connected characters. It does kind of feel like a novel when you get to the end, but if you expect a novel, you may be disappointed. Egan is a strong writer. Her characters are fascinating and complex, and are certainly more than their jobs/conditions. Singularly different! Loved the punk rock vibe and the variety of characters, I can see why so many people rave about this book—it has something for everyone. Listened to this on audio and I may have enjoyed it more in book form. It had many different storylines and only listening in the car on my commute meant that I went long periods between listening and that made it tricky to follow.
