The number of friends who have recommended I read this book was getting impressive, so I gave in. I suppose I'm glad I did, because I found much of the book interesting, and the premise was fascinating. The one problem I had comes from the fact that I'm a stickler for a good, substantial resolution. There, this book fell flat. I felt the author could have written another chapter of material to properly and conclusively wrap up the storytelling.

A Newbery Award winner, this book is one that I can read over and over again and I pick up different subtleties each time.
Jonas lives in a supposed utopian society but as he becomes older he finds that fairness comes at a price.
I just read the book a few months ago but I find myself wanting to read it again now, just because it makes me question things. Perhaps I’ll pick it up again this week. At only 179 pages, it’s a pretty fast read. I definitely recommend it for kids as young as middle schoo ...more

Thought provoking. It's a short book but the character development is very detailed.
