What an excellent finish to one of my favorite YA trilogies ever! I'll admit that one of the central mysteries of the story is something that I thought was obvious from the first book. However, there were some complexities I didn't guess, even with that. Lots of history and period detail. Lots of Annith and Balthazaar, and wonderful amounts of Ismae and Sybella too, as well as bits of Duval and Beast. I REALLY enjoyed reading this book. While I did have a few issues with the plot and characterizations, I LOVED the love story. It is Buffy and Angel all over again. And I realize that may sound trivial to some, but for me the Buffy/Angel story was epic. it was a love story for the ages.

I doubt that the parallel was intentional, I think that the characters are just such powerful archetypes that they appear again and again.

I loved this series. I liked this book probably the least of the three, but I loved the other two books-it is still a four star book. There was more supernatural elements to this book and at times it was predictable, but I love this writer and love the way she writes with historical settings.
