This was a great audiobook. It made me want to stay in my car to listen to just one more chapter every day. What a great storyteller King is! Not a bit of horror in this one, just an edge-of-your seat thriller with great characters and a story that keeps going until the very end. I could recommend this one to some older teens looking for a page-turner.

This was really good, and greatly enhanced by the reading by Will Patton. This is such an effective thriller, I feel like recommending some Xanax along with it. As usual, King is so good at crafting the villain, it adds even more tension. Seeing things through Mr. Mercedes's eyes as well as Hodges (and occasionally from other points of view) creates both engagement and anxiety.

Here is what I knew about Mr. Mercedes before I read it - it is the first book in a trilogy. I expected King horror, not classic noir. But this mystery didn’t disappoint, just surprised. Bill Hodges is a recently retired detective, Brady Hartsfield is the psychopathic killer. Brady is the so-called Mercedes killer, (an unsolved crime that Hodges left behind with retirement), who begins to taunt Hodges. Not a whodunit, but a what will he do next.
