I recently heard an interview on NPR about this book that included the author of Pachinko. It made me want to reread this. They pointed out how badly we really get to know any of the female characters while it still remains a classic. Fun to revisit and a lot parallels our society today.

Like many people, I first read The Great Gatsby in high school and I don't think I really got it at the time. I vaguely remembered wild parties and a car crash, but this was all I took away from the novel. Reading it again as an adult, I can't believe how little I retained. I had the perception that Gatsby was mostly about rich people throwing lavish parties until tragedy strikes at the end. Upon re-reading I was surprised by just how quickly things turn sour.
