For some reason, I always thought this was a southern romance novel, but it's really a long, drawn out explanation of how difficult reconstruction was for white planation owners. Scarlett annoyed me so much, and yet at times, I somehow found myself hoping she'd find a way to be happy. Will I read this again? It is hard for me to ever say that I enjoyed something more than Uncle Tom's Cabin or Les Mis or phantom of the opera BUT this may very well be my ultimate favorite book. In the beginning I enjoyed it so much because I never really could get myself to see the world through the eyes of a Southerner. I didn't understand how they could verify it. I read it for the first time in the late 80's or early 90's when my mom passed her original copy on to me. I've gone on to read it so many times that I had to purchase a new copy so that Mama's didn't fall completely apart.
