My all time favorite book. I reread it this month and I forget how GREAT it is. A timeless story, wonderful, well-written characters, lush scenery, a bit of history (one-sided)
It all comes together to make a wonderful novel. Scarlett and Rhett are 2 of the greatest characters I have written. Scarlett is frustrating beyond all words. Rhett is endlessly dreamy. I enjoy this book so much - it makes me laugh and it makes me sob and I don't want it to end. ...more

Shelves: pulitzer, historical-fiction

For some reason, I always thought this was a southern romance novel, but it's really a long, drawn out explanation of how difficult reconstruction was for white planation owners. Scarlett annoyed me so much, and yet at times, I somehow found myself hoping she'd find a way to be happy. Will I read this again? Absolutely not, but I'm glad that I did read it this one time so I can say I have.

An amazing book! Talks about what the South had to face during the American Civil war and Reconstruction.Every character is built up so well,be it the 4 lead characters or the supporting characters.The details of the war keep you totally hooked.So I say..A must read!

It is hard for me to ever say that I enjoyed something more than Uncle Tom's Cabin or Les Mis or phantom of the opera BUT this may very well be my ultimate favorite book. In the beginning I enjoyed it so much because I never really could get myself to see the world through the eyes of a Southerner. I didn't understand how they could verify it. But I really felt like I was there and part of it all. I don't think I have ever read a book written the way she writes. It was so wonderful.
