I now understand why this was the book everyone was reading but me in the past year or so. Larsson's writing (at least in translation) is spare but still rich in character development, and he weaves a cracking good story - couldn't put it down (or take off the headphones, in my case). Murder mystery writing with a hint of corporate intrigue thrown in for good measure always makes me happy. Plus it all takes place in Sweden, which I found to be added bonus. The author adds so much attention to detail that it took almost half the book before i was hooked, but once it happened, I couldn't put it down. The mystery in this book captivated me and kept my attention until the very end. The characters were strong, as was the storyline. I wasn't expecting it to be so disturbing, nor for there to be such graphic sadism. While I'm looking forward to the next book in the trilogy, I hope it's less sexually violent.
